Run Form Lab

A running-gait analysis like the ones in sports labs, from a phone video. Film yourself running from the side, and body tracking measures your cadence, how much you bounce, where your foot lands, your knee at landing, your lean and how even your left and right steps are.

📱 Side viewPhone sideways at hip height, 3–4 m away, so your whole body stays in frame.
🏃 10+ secondsA treadmill is ideal. Outdoors, run past the camera a few times at your normal pace.
🔒 PrivateThe video is analysed in your browser. It never uploads anywhere.

Typical ranges are for recreational distance running at an easy-to-steady pace. Sprinting, hills and very tall or short runners differ.

01Pose trackingMediaPipe Pose finds 33 body points in each frame: shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, heels and toes.
02CadenceYour hips rise and fall once per step, so the strongest frequency in that bounce is your step rate.
03Foot strikeLanding is found with the Zeni method: the moment each heel is furthest ahead of the pelvis.
04Real unitsHip-to-ankle length is about 48% of your height, which turns pixels into centimetres.

Checked against simulated runners with known form: cadence, knee angle, lean and bounce come back within a few percent. Camera angle matters most. If you film at a diagonal, distances and angles will be off.
